Sergio Pérez is guaranteed at Red Bull until the end of his current contract in 2024, but his performance has been increasingly questioned outside the team. Despite being in second place in the championship behind teammate Max Verstappen, he has less than double the points of the Dutchman, and Christijan Albers believes that #11 doesn’t have what it takes.
In statements to De Telegraaf, the former driver argued that the Mexican does not show progress throughout a race weekend, displaying significant speed gaps compared to Verstappen:
“I’m not a fan of Pérez, but that’s simply because he doesn’t improve throughout a weekend even if he has all of Max’s data. The gap in qualifying is simply too big. He simply has shortcomings, he’s not fast enough.”
