Before the Iowa Speedway Cup race weekend, all uncertainties regarding Christopher Bell’s future were dispelled when he announced his retirement at the end of the 2024 season. JGR has already secured the SHR driver as the successor to the veteran driver in the No. 19 Toyota Camry starting in 2025.
Christopher Bell, the star driver of Joe Gibbs Racing who emerged victorious in the previous weekend’s race in New Hampshire, shared his feelings about Martin Truex Jr., emphasizing that the 2017 champion serves as an idol and a role model for him. Bell aspires to achieve the same level of success as Truex Jr. and hopes to end his career on a high note.
Bell praised Martin Truex Jr.’s unwavering focus on winning races and being the best driver on the track. He finds it truly remarkable that the veteran driver has achieved all his success in a unique way.
Although social media and self-promotion have become integral parts of the sport, Bell, like Truex Jr., is not particularly a fan of them. The JGR driver wishes to be recognized primarily for his racing skills.
When it comes to finding an idol, Bell, with his own personality and approach to racing, sees Martin Truex Jr. as the perfect candidate. As teammates, Bell has had ample opportunity to learn from Truex Jr. and be inspired by his racing style.
