For Pittsburgh Steelers fans, the 2024 season has brought familiar challenges, including a sluggish passing game. With Pittsburgh averaging just 178 passing yards per game, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently named veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as a potential trade target for the team. Despite a 3-2 start, the Steelers’ receiving corps has struggled, with George Pickens as the lone consistent producer, leaving Knox to speculate if Hopkins could provide the boost they need.
Hopkins, now with the Tennessee Titans, is on an expiring contract and would bring valuable experience to the Steelers’ offense. Though he’s 32 and hasn’t hit All-Pro form since 2020, he remains a capable and reliable receiver, potentially available at a reasonable trade cost. While adding Hopkins wouldn’t solve every issue, his presence would provide a reliable No. 2 option to complement Pickens, potentially taking the pressure off the Steelers’ budding star and giving quarterback Justin Fields more dependable targets downfield.
While there are some concerns about Hopkins’ recent production, his upside as a seasoned route-runner and pass-catcher is difficult to ignore. If Pittsburgh can bring him in as a rental for a low cost, it might just be the low-risk, high-reward move that gets their passing game back on track.
