With the U.S. presidential election approaching and polls showing a razor-thin margin between the two major parties, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched its first attack ad against Green Party candidate Jill Stein, warning voters that “a vote for Stein is really a vote for Trump.” This message is aimed at swing states where Stein’s base could tip the balance, including Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
In the advertisement, the Democrats directly tie Stein to former President Donald Trump, including a clip where Trump praises Stein, saying, “I like her very much.” Stein, who currently polls around 1 percent, has attracted some disillusioned progressive voters, a concern for Democrats who fear her presence could impact Vice President Kamala Harris’s voter base.
Historically, Democrats have criticized third-party candidates like Stein, citing her 2016 run as a factor in Trump’s victory. With other minor candidates, such as independent Cornel West and Libertarian Chase Oliver, Democrats are wary of losing any progressive-leaning voters in key battleground states, where every vote could be decisive.
