The Canadian tennis player, Denis Shapovalov, is still dealing with the consequences of his disqualification at the Citi Open last week. However, he is not allowing his on-court issues to impact his personal life. Shapovalov celebrated the gold medal victory of Canada’s relay sprinters at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also took the opportunity to subtly respond to American sprinter Noah Lyles for his disrespectful behavior towards the Canadian sprinters.
Prior to the start of the Summer Games, Lyles undermined the abilities of the Canadian sprinters, claiming they were not a threat to the USA. Shapovalov has now retaliated against the American sprinter by sharing a photo of the Canadian relay sprinters standing on the podium with their gold medals, accompanied by a clever caption.
The Canadian relay team, consisting of Andre de Grasse, Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, and Brendon Rodney, who won the 200m gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, secured the gold medal in the 4x100m relay in Paris, completing the race in 37.5 seconds.
Meanwhile, the United States failed to secure a spot on the podium as they were disqualified due to a mishap during the baton exchange. Noah Lyles was unable to participate in the event after testing positive for COVID-19.
Denis Shapovalov faced disqualification at the Citi Open for using profanity against a spectator during his match against Ben Shelton. He admitted to struggling with sleep for two consecutive days following the incident.
Nevertheless, Shapovalov’s situation returned to normal as he successfully appealed the decision, resulting in the restoration of his ranking points and prize money, which had been initially revoked. He subsequently made his comeback at the Canadian Open in Montreal, aiming to regain his confidence in front of his home crowd.
