The Talladega Cup race proved to be an exciting experience for Denny Hamlin. The victory marked the first triumph of the 2024 season for 23XI Racing. Taking advantage of a last-lap crash, Hamlin secured his first victory at the superspeedway. The celebration was even more electrifying due to the presence of Michael Jordan, co-owner of the TRD team, on the victory podium.
Michael Jordan joined Hamlin and Tyler Reddick on the podium to celebrate the heartfelt victory. As a co-owner and driver for JGR, Hamlin discussed on his podcast how excited the legendary basketball player was to witness the car adorned with the iconic Jumpman logo emerge victorious. He emphasized that this moment should not be underestimated.
During the podcast, Hamlin asked his social media manager and podcast co-host, Jared Allen, to take action regarding a photo of him and Jordan embracing on the victory podium. He had previously shared a video of the two on social media.
Unfortunately, Sunday proved to be a forgettable day for Hamlin as a driver. Typically, when the 23XI team secures a victory, Hamlin is often at the forefront, making it an even more satisfying day for him. However, luck was not on his side this Sunday as he was involved in a crash involving other Toyota drivers, resulting in a Did Not Finish (DNF) result.
The victory served as a much-needed morale boost for Hamlin, who was feeling emotionally down. Now, he will shift his focus to supporting his teammate, Wallace, in securing a playoff spot by winning a race. With 16 races remaining in the regular season, Hamlin aims to contribute to Wallace’s success.
