Denny Hamlin highlighted that Joey Logano’s words were taken out of context. Hamlin, a veteran racer for Joe Gibbs Racing, came to Logano’s defense in the midst of the controversy. On his podcast “Action Detrimental,” Hamlin addressed the issue and emphasized that Logano’s intention was to highlight the level of access NASCAR fans enjoy to the drivers. He agreed with Logano’s statement that fans have the luxury of interacting with drivers.
However, while Logano is partially correct in his assessment, there has been a decrease in accessibility compared to the past. NASCAR fans have noticed this decline and expressed their dissatisfaction. One of the reasons for this change is the shift in sponsor dynamics within the sport. Fan interaction events organized by sponsors have become less frequent, resulting in fewer opportunities for drivers to physically engage with fans. Hamlin suggests that this shift in sponsor involvement may have contributed to the current situation.
