The New Orleans Saints found themselves in a humiliating Thursday Night Football defeat against the Denver Broncos, trailing 26-5 with just over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. By halftime, Denver had already built a commanding 16-3 lead, and the Saints’ lackluster performance left former cornerback and analyst Richard Sherman completely stunned.
During the halftime show, Sherman didn’t hold back: “I’m confused. I’m perplexed. I don’t get it. [The Saints] don’t want to tackle. They don’t want to make plays. These are good players. Tyrann Mathieu is a good player… the easiest interception of his life, he drops it,” Sherman fumed, as shared by Awful Announcing on X. “I see guys not giving effort to get to the ball carrier, to make tackles. It seems like they want to get their coach fired. That’s the effort they’re playing with.”
Sherman wasn’t done. He took direct aim at head coach Dennis Allen, quipping, “Dennis Allen, you call a timeout so we can watch your quarterback take a knee!? Do you want to torture these Saints fans? They’re going to be waiting at his car after the game.”
The Saints struggled on both sides of the ball, but their inability to stop Denver’s run game stood out. Broncos running back Javonte Williams shredded New Orleans’ defense with 81 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries by the time there were four minutes left in the game. Denver finished with a whopping 226 rushing yards, while the Saints could only muster a paltry 82.
While Thursday night’s performance was a disaster, the Saints still have a chance to turn things around in the season’s second half and push towards a .500 record. But for now, fans are left wondering if Sherman’s harsh critique hit the mark.
