Following the Dallas Cowboys’ crushing 47-9 home loss to the Detroit Lions, team owner Jerry Jones didn’t mince words, calling the season “in the crapper” while also snapping at local Fox sports anchor Jeff Kolb over the fate of head coach Mike McCarthy. When Kolb asked if a coaching change might be on the table, Jones fired back, “Do you think I’m an idiot?”
Jones’ frustration was on full display, admitting he was deeply concerned by the Cowboys’ 3-3 start. While he denied any immediate plans to replace McCarthy, he also implied he wouldn’t necessarily announce such considerations to the media: “Well, I’m not gonna hypothetical with you about what I consider… I’m not at all,” he told Kolb. McCarthy has led Dallas to three consecutive 12-5 seasons, but each time, the team has failed to make a deep playoff run, fueling fan discontent.
The Cowboys are now winless at home and reeling from what’s become the worst home defeat under Jones’ 35-year ownership. In response, Jones addressed the 93,644 fans who attended the game, calling the loss “very concerning” and apologizing for a performance that left “a lot of work to do.”
But the embarrassment didn’t end on the field. In a social media post boasting about the packed stadium, the Cowboys appeared to blur the jumbotron scoreboard, which only added fuel to the fire online. Fans were quick to mock the move, with one fan sarcastically asking, “Did Jerry Jones hire a scoreboard blur technician?” Another joked, “Not safe for kids.”
The Cowboys have a bye week ahead of their next game against the San Francisco 49ers, giving them time to regroup. “I’m glad we got this bye week coming up here,” Jones noted, hinting at much-needed adjustments. For now, though, as fans continue to vent their frustrations and analysts speculate on McCarthy’s future, all eyes are on Jones’ next move.
