Another Shula Could Be Joining Dolphins Coaching Staff
In a surprising turn of events, the Miami Dolphins may soon have another member of the Shula family on their coaching staff. Chris Shula, the grandson of legendary coach Don Shula, recently interviewed for the team’s open defensive coordinator position. If he is hired, Chris will follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, who had an illustrious career with the Dolphins.
According to sources, the Dolphins are seriously considering Chris for the role. The 37-year-old has worked his way up the coaching ranks in the NFL, and while his last name certainly carries weight, he has proven himself to be a solid candidate. Chris has spent the past seven seasons as an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams, where he served as the pass rush coordinator and linebackers coach.
Chris’s journey to the NFL has been a remarkable one. He played college football at Miami (OH) and was teammates with Sean McVay, who is now the head coach of the Rams. After coaching at various college programs, Chris made the leap to the NFL and joined the Los Angeles Chargers before ultimately reuniting with McVay in Los Angeles.
During his time with the Rams, Chris has held multiple positions on the defensive staff, gaining valuable experience and knowledge. While he may be known in NFL circles due to his famous last name, Chris is determined to make a name for himself and continue the Shula legacy in coaching.
The Shula name holds immense significance in the football world. Don Shula, Chris’s grandfather, is considered one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. He coached the Baltimore Colts for seven seasons before joining the Dolphins, where he led the team for an incredible 26 years. Don holds the record for the most wins by a head coach in NFL history, with a remarkable 328-156-6 record. He also guided the 1972 Dolphins to an undefeated season, making them the only team in NFL history to achieve such a feat.
As the Dolphins continue their search for a new defensive coordinator, all eyes are on Chris Shula. Will he be the next Shula to make his mark on the Dolphins sideline? Only time will tell, but the Shula legacy is undoubtedly one that the Dolphins organization holds in high regard.
