According to the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ducati has chosen to promote Jorge Martin, the current leader of the MotoGP championship, to their official team in the 2025 season. Ducati faced a dilemma in deciding who should be the partner of current champion Francesco Bagnaia, considering Martin, Marc Marquez, and Enea Bastianini as potential candidates. Martin, who currently rides for the Pramac team, has secured three Sprint wins and two Grand Prix victories this season, giving him a significant 39-point advantage over Bagnaia before the Mugello race. Speculations suggested that the announcement would be made this weekend, but Ducati General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna clarified that this will not happen. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Ducati considers Martin indispensable and highlighted his loyalty to the brand, as he has been with the Pramac team since 2011. The Italian publication also mentioned that promoting Marquez to the factory team could disrupt harmony within Ducati and undermine Bagnaia’s leadership position. There were rumors that Marquez exerted “significant pressure” on Ducati, and it is now being suggested that the multiple MotoGP champion may consider joining the Pramac team. Ducati’s justification for this is that Marquez, who will turn 32 in 2025, may struggle to adapt to a new bike after spending his entire career with Honda. If Marquez decides to make the switch, there is a possibility that Martin will be replaced at Pramac, potentially alongside rookie rider Fermin Aldeguer, with the option to ride the next-generation GP25 bike in the upcoming season. This weekend, Ducati will temporarily change their traditional red livery to blue as part of a promotional campaign to display Italy’s national sports colors, and all team members will participate in this initiative.
