Emma Raducanu has achieved a significant rise in the rankings, with the 21-year-old British player now sitting at No. 69 in the world. This impressive climb of 20 positions on the latest WTA rankings list comes after Raducanu reached the quarterfinals of a WTA 500 tournament in Washington. Notably, she didn’t have any points to defend, allowing her to make progress towards reentering the top 50 in the global rankings.
Raducanu faced numerous setbacks due to multiple surgeries at the beginning of 2024, resulting in her falling outside the top 300. Additionally, she wasn’t among the top 200 players when the grass season commenced. However, over the past two months, she has made remarkable strides, improving her ranking by approximately 150 spots.
Around this time last year, Raducanu was in the process of recovering from three surgeries, and doubts lingered about her comeback. Nevertheless, her 2024 campaign has been promising so far, with Raducanu maintaining good health and achieving notable victories and results.
Reflecting on her recent progress, Raducanu expressed satisfaction with her game development. Starting the grass season ranked outside the top 200, she managed to finish within the top 100. This accomplishment secured her a spot in the main draw of the U.S. Open, which held significant importance for her. Raducanu emphasized her determination to participate in Grand Slam tournaments.
Comparing her current situation to a year ago, Raducanu recalled not having touched a tennis ball until late November. At that time, she was in China, enjoying a month with her family. Now, she is grateful to be in a position where she can compete, maintain her health, and genuinely enjoy playing tennis.
Meanwhile, Raducanu has decided to skip the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto this week, as she was not granted a main draw wildcard entry.
