Low temperatures bring problems that Portuguese drivers are not used to dealing with for most of the year: accumulated ice on the car windshield in the morning, for example. A problem, especially in the rushed routines of the mornings.

In vehicles that are not equipped with climate windshields or heating to defrost and defog the glass, the solution is to scrape the ice with a spatula, or even a plastic card that you have in your wallet.
But, to avoid this kind of forced work in the cold, early in the morning, the GNR shared a foolproof homemade recipe.
“Never start the journey with ice on the windshield. Driving with ice on the glass reduces visibility drastically! To avoid it, we suggest using a defroster to ensure visibility while driving. You can also prepare a “homemade” defroster to spray the ice on the glass”, writes the GNR on social media, where they explain the recipe: for three parts water, one part vinegar; or for two parts water, one part alcohol.
But, be careful, the mixture is applied directly to the glass, never put alcohol or vinegar in the windshield washer fluid reservoir.
