Sergio Perez has been exercising his profession with Red Bull since 2021. The driver market for the 2025 season is heating up, with several current driver contracts coming to an end. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko revealed that Perez initially wanted a three-year extension.
Perez has been with the Milton Keynes-based team since 2021 and has managed to keep his seat alongside the current world champion, despite ups and downs in his campaigns. He started the 2024 season strong, aiming to secure his future in F1 as soon as possible.
Since Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from Red Bull in 2018, several drivers have come and gone, but none have been able to hold onto the second seat for as long as Perez. Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon had short stints with the team, struggling to keep up with Max Verstappen.
Although Perez wants to resolve his situation with Red Bull promptly, the team believes they are not yet in a position to do so. Red Bull has several options available for the 2025 season, with current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc being one of the most attractive choices. There are also other names that interest the team.
Although Perez’s future with Red Bull is uncertain, one thing remains unchanged: the Austrian team expects him to perform consistently. Currently, Perez has accumulated 85 points compared to Verstappen’s 110. The next 4-5 races may determine whether Perez will receive a contract extension with Red Bull.
