The FIA World Rally Championship 2024, specifically Stage Three, known as Rally Safari, took place from March 27 to 31, 2024. Elfyn Evans gained a 2.6-second advantage in the middle of Sunday, while Hyundai had another disastrous day.
Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team’s bad luck at Rally Safari continued without any relief. Lappi, in particular, suffered a flat tire just 1 kilometer into the first stage. With only one spare wheel available, he had to be cautious for the remaining 37 kilometers of the morning circuit.
However, Kenya had more problems in store for Lappi. In the appropriately named stage Hell’s Gate, the Finn faced transmission issues, further adding to his troubles.
Thierry Neuville, on the other hand, started the day strong by winning the first stage. Unfortunately, he encountered a huge rock on the racing line during Hell’s Gate, the last stage of the morning circuit. As a result, the rear right suspension completely collapsed, forcing Neuville to limp to the finish line and return to service park in a crooked manner. Despite this incident, it did not affect his overall position, if you’ll pardon the pun.
Evans, driving for Toyota, showcased his skill by securing two more stage wins. Consequently, he emerged as the leader in the Super Sunday standings halfway through, maintaining a 2.6-second advantage over Tanak, with Katsuta closely following, just 0.8 seconds behind.
