The upcoming LIV Golf Greenbrier tournament is crucial for many players. Matthew Wolff, who joined RangeGoats after a bitter dispute with Brooks Koepka last year, has the opportunity to break into the top ten in the season-long standings with a victory. The performance of his teammates will also impact RangeGoats’ chances in the season-ending Team Championship. However, Bubba Watson and his team have decided not to participate in the cutthroat competition.
Instead, they are in Springfield, engaged in charitable work. After each tournament, the team donates goats to Convoy of Hope. The number of goats donated depends on the number of teams they surpass. For instance, after achieving a T7 at LIV UK, RangeGoats donated six goats to the ranch. Watson estimates that they have donated approximately 30 goats so far this season.
Speaking to Ozarksfirst.com, Watson explained that their contribution is not merely a monetary one, but rather, it has a more significant impact. Dr. Jason Streuebel at Convoy of Hope emphasized that livestock donations can make a life-or-death difference in underprivileged communities.
Convoy of Hope, a non-profit organization with a religious foundation, aims to provide means of sustenance to communities in need. They have assisted over 295 million individuals in more than 130 countries. Watson’s statements suggested that the captain of RangeGoats has intentions to personally observe the impact of their team’s plans.
“In November, we will travel to a location around the world to distribute the goats and witness their impact firsthand. This program is in its inaugural year… This is something we are eager to participate in and put aside golf,” added the professional golfer from LIV golf. Bubba Watson is also a man of faith.
His motto can be summarized by a tweet he shared after winning the 2012 Masters. “The most important things in my life are: 1. God 2. Wife 3. Family 4. Helping others 5. Golf.” Therefore, it is not surprising that he wants to “forget” the game, which he once admitted was negatively affecting him. What is surprising, however, is the name of his team. It may be tempting to connect the name “goats” to his own nickname, but they are unrelated.
The first action Bubba Watson took upon joining Niblicks GC was to change the team’s name. The franchise was rebranded as RangeGoats. “This decision reflects my roots and where I come from. I did not lead a luxurious lifestyle during my upbringing,” Watson shared with LIV Golf last year.
The first swing he took was on the driving range of Tanglewood Golf Course. The head professional there gifted him his first club. On the other hand, the term “goat” in RangeGoats is an acronym. However, it does not stand for “Greatest Of All Time.”
