What’s cuter than a stray pup? A stray pup named after your favorite golfer! When a Good Samaritan stumbled upon an emaciated dog and her 10 adorable puppies in the Missouri woods, the rescue team from Stray Rescue of St. Louis saw the perfect opportunity for some fun. The rescue happened to coincide with a fundraising golf tournament, and thus, the puppies were given names that are sure to make any golf fan smile.
Say hello to Rickey Howler, Tiger Woofs, Doggie Pepper, and more! The creative names didn’t stop there—Graeme McHowell, Betsy Jawls, Inbee Bark, Louise Puggs, Arnold Pawmer, and Woofy Austin all made the cut. The mother, who had clearly given everything to keep her pups alive, was dubbed Mary, Queen of Scots, a nod to the first recorded female golfer. “She has literally given everything she has to keep her babies alive,” Stray Rescue’s CEO Cassady Caldwell shared with People magazine.
Despite being covered in fleas, the puppies were otherwise healthy, and the best news? Mary and all her pups found a foster home shortly after reaching the rescue facility. Here’s hoping for a happy life filled with belly rubs and birdies for Doggie Pepper, Inbee Bark, and Woofy Austin!
Good luck to this golf-inspired pack—may they find homes as great as their names!
