In 2026, Sauber will become the Audi factory team in Formula 1, but until then, they will still have to fulfill two more seasons as a customer of Ferrari. And despite the confirmed future separation to collaborate with a rival constructor, the relationship with the Maranello team will not be negatively affected.
This was guaranteed by the Alfa Romeo team representative, Alessandro Aalunni Bravi, who stated to Autosprint: ‘No, not at all. They are two very different contracts. Sauber will continue to compete with Ferrari engines in the next two years, 2024 and 2025. The relationship with Ferrari is very important to us’.
And the Italian recalled Sauber’s commitment to be alongside the Maranello constructor: ‘To stick with Ferrari, we gave up our previous partners. In 2017, we had two supply contracts – one with Honda for the engines and one with McLaren for the gearbox. But as soon as the possibility of an agreement with [Sergio] Marchionne and Ferrari arose, we decided to stop the contracts because he wanted to bring the Alfa Romeo brand back to Formula 1’.
