A few days after revealing the renovated Golf, VW showed the first images of the Golf R and confirmed its launch in the summer.
The first official images of the renovated R show the most radical version of the Golf, in an ice race that took place in Zell am See, Austria, over the weekend, where the renovated model was driven by Johan Kristofferson, a Swedish driver who won five of his six rallycross world titles with VW.
Like the renovated Golf, the sportiest version of the iconic German model is expected to have a set of updates, with an evolution rather than a revolution, especially in the exterior design, with a redesigned front section and an interior marked by a new infotainment system, the reintroduction of physical buttons, and a series of high-quality materials.
As for the engine, it is expected that VW will keep the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, although with a power output higher than the current Golf R’s 320 hp.
“It was a lot of fun to sit behind the wheel of the new Golf for the first time. I can only say that, although the Golf R has not been revealed yet, R brand fans can expect a true sports car,” said Johan Kristofferson.
