George Russell, British driver for Mercedes AMG F1, made some mistakes during the Canadian Grand Prix that cost him a higher position. According to former Formula 1 champion Damon Hill, Russell’s errors were a result of him trying too hard to impress his team. Despite starting in pole position, Russell lost a position to Max Verstappen after cutting the final chicane. He later regained the position but lost it again due to a moment of instability at Turn 8. Hill believes that Russell’s tendency to make mistakes at crucial moments could be resolved if Mercedes showed more confidence in him as their main driver. With Lewis Hamilton potentially leaving the team to go to Ferrari next season, Russell has the opportunity to establish himself as the team’s main driver. Hill suggests that Mercedes should support Russell more and give him the comfort and confidence necessary for him to perform at his best.
