German driver Nico Hulkenberg has rejected claims that Audi’s German identity played a significant role in his decision to switch teams before the manufacturer’s entry into Formula 1. Hulkenberg recently signed a multi-year deal with Sauber, which will eventually become Audi’s factory team. Although the Audi brand won’t be visible until 2026, the team representative revealed that they will be actively involved in discussions with the drivers. Hulkenberg believes that being part of the Sauber team beforehand will give him an advantage when Audi joins the sport. He emphasized that his decision was based on finding the best sporting opportunity, not on the nationality of the team.
