Nico Hulkenberg, the Haas driver, will face a penalty during the next race on Sunday, according to the FIA. The incident in question occurred during the Formula 1 sprint race in Austria, specifically on lap 19 at the Red Bull Ring. Hulkenberg was battling with Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin for the P14 position at the time. In an attempt to overtake Alonso at turn 3, Hulkenberg braked too late, causing him to lock up the tires and miss the apex. As a result, he went off track and blocked Alonso’s path, forcing the latter to go off track to avoid a collision. This not only allowed Hulkenberg to gain the position, but also allowed Sargeant, who was closely following, to overtake Alonso as well. After a thorough analysis of the video footage and car evidence, the Stewards decided to impose a 10-second penalty on Hulkenberg, which he will serve during the race on Sunday. Additionally, Hulkenberg will also receive 2 penalty points for the incident. Alonso, in his post-race comments, hinted at the possibility of defending his position and trying to force Hulkenberg to receive a penalty, stating that Hulkenberg had forced him off track. However, he also mentioned that, being Spanish, he preferred not to get into trouble.
