Nancy Pelosi has revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Joe Biden since she led the charge to push him out of the 2024 presidential race. Appearing on a podcast, Pelosi confirmed that Biden’s departure was necessary to keep the White House away from Donald Trump: “I decided a while ago that Donald Trump will never set foot in the White House again… You decide to win, and the most important decision of all is the candidate,” she said. Though once close allies, Pelosi and Biden’s communication abruptly ended after her firm intervention in July.
Biden’s lackluster debate against Trump had amplified concerns about his readiness, and it was Pelosi who ultimately nudged him toward the exit. Referring to her direct decision-making, Pelosi added, “Sometimes you have to take a punch for the children.” She described her intervention as safeguarding Biden’s legacy and setting a course she believed would protect both the country and her party.
After Biden reluctantly penned a letter reaffirming his commitment to the race, Pelosi said, “It didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me. I didn’t accept it as anything but a letter.” With Biden’s exit, Pelosi threw her support behind Kamala Harris, whom she praised for her “strength, knowledge of policy, and strategy.” Pelosi believes the country is ready for a woman president: “I always thought America was more ready for a woman president than a woman Speaker,” she noted, pointing to the “marble ceiling” she herself had broken.
Now, Pelosi is rallying Democrats to put Harris in the White House, trusting her candidacy to break yet another barrier, this time at the highest level.
