In a heartbreaking new interview, Patrick Clancy has recounted the tragic day he lost his three children at the hands of his wife, Lindsay Clancy, a nurse who allegedly suffered from severe mental health issues. Returning home on January 24, 2023, Patrick found his children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months—strangled in their basement and Lindsay lying semi-conscious outside after an attempted suicide.
Patrick shared haunting details of a call with Lindsay earlier that day when he sensed something was off, even as she sounded “normal” and “in the middle of something.” Hours later, he returned to their Massachusetts home to discover blood on the floor and Lindsay barely conscious in the backyard. When he asked her where the children were, she directed him to the basement, where he found them lifeless, exercise bands still wrapped around their necks.
Despite the devastating loss, Patrick insists he doesn’t blame Lindsay, describing her as a mother who “got sick” rather than a “monster.” Lindsay’s mental health had been declining since the birth of their youngest child, Callan, leading her to seek treatment for anxiety, severe insomnia, and intrusive thoughts. Her mental state reportedly deteriorated further after multiple medications were prescribed, including antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs.
Defense attorneys argue that Lindsay was overmedicated, with seven drugs detected in her blood, which they believe exacerbated her mental health crisis. In a phone call made from her psychologist’s office days before her arraignment, Lindsay claimed she had heard voices telling her to kill her children and then herself.
Prosecutors, however, present a different picture. They allege Lindsay researched methods of killing and argue that her actions may have been premeditated. Lindsay has since pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges, with her defense team planning an insanity plea. No trial date has been set, and Patrick remains haunted by the chilling details of that day, grappling with the unimaginable loss of his children and the mental health battle his wife continues to face.
