The PS presented a proposal to eliminate the increase in the IUC for vehicles prior to 2007 from the State Budget for 2024 (OE2024), arguing that it is “a matter of social justice and protection of citizens with greater economic vulnerability”.
In the amendment proposal presented by the PS parliamentary group, the socialists now argue that “the light vehicle is still in many cases the main means of transportation for work or for traveling to the nearest public transportation, especially outside the main cities of the country and in areas of medium and low density, where the offer of public transportation is limited and inadequate for daily mobility needs”.
“In these cases, where the car is an absolute necessity, the fact that many citizens do not have the financial means to replace it with a newer vehicle is added. Therefore, it is considered important for reasons of social justice and protection of citizens with greater economic vulnerability to rectify the OE proposal in this sense”, it can be read.
It should be noted that this concerns a measure provided for in the OE2024 that changes the taxation rules, in terms of IUC, for vehicles in category A with a registration prior to 2007 and motorcycles (category E), determining that they will no longer be taxed based solely on displacement (as is currently the case), but rather considering the environmental component.
