Iran has sent a firm message to Israel through European diplomatic channels, warning of severe consequences if Israeli forces target Tehran’s critical infrastructure, including its oil and nuclear facilities. Diplomatic sources revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that while Iran might “shrug off” minor Israeli attacks, it would consider any direct strike on these vital assets a “red line,” prompting an inevitable escalation.
The exchange comes as the Middle East braces for heightened tensions. Israel is reportedly preparing a response to Iran’s missile strike on October 1, with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s upcoming visit to the US potentially marking the timing for an official Israeli response.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a diplomatic visit to Turkmenistan, underscored Tehran’s reluctance for conflict but reiterated Iran’s readiness to act in defense if provoked. Pezeshkian also urged Israel to halt its military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, a move viewed as an appeal to prevent broader regional instability.
