British racing sensation Jamie Chadwick has taken a significant step toward her goal of competing at the highest level of American open-wheel racing by completing her first test in the NTT IndyCar Series. Chadwick, 26, recently wrapped up her second season in the IndyNXT feeder series, driving for Andretti, and earned her maiden victory earlier this year at Road America. Now, after months of anticipation, she finally had the chance to get behind the wheel of an IndyCar at Barber Motorsports Park.
“Chadwick’s First Taste of IndyCar”
Driving Andretti’s #25 car, Chadwick turned 87 laps around the 2.3-mile Barber Motorsports Park circuit on Monday, marking her first experience with top-level IndyCar machinery. Describing the day as “incredible,” Chadwick expressed her excitement not just about the test, but also about her ambition to compete in IndyCar full-time.
“I think just having the opportunity to drive the IndyCar, aside from getting wrapped up in performance and all that kind of stuff, is just very, very cool,” Chadwick told RACER. “I don’t want to just make up the numbers in IndyCar… I want to be there, because I deserve to be there. And I can be competitive.”
Chadwick acknowledged that competing at this level will require time and meticulous preparation but said her test has given her the confidence that, with the right support and preparation, she can compete at the top.
“Rising Through the Ranks”
Chadwick has been steadily climbing the motorsport ladder. Her victory in the 20-lap event at Road America earlier this season showcased her racing prowess, as she led from start to finish while fending off pressure from rivals. This win was a significant moment in her journey through IndyNXT, bringing her closer to her IndyCar aspirations.
“Physical Demands and Next Steps”
One of the biggest challenges Chadwick faces is the physical demands of IndyCar racing, particularly due to her smaller stature and the series’ lack of power steering. She has been focusing on her physical strength as she prepares to move into more powerful machinery.
“I know I can be competitive,” Chadwick said after the test, “but only if I’ve got everything going for me, every bit of strength. So working out that bit is going to be the next step.”
“What’s Next for Chadwick?”
Chadwick’s future plans for the upcoming season are still unconfirmed, though her strong ties to both Andretti Global and Williams F1 offer plenty of opportunities. As she continues to prepare for a potential move to IndyCar, this test represents a crucial milestone in her journey toward competing at the highest level of motorsport.
With her determination, skill, and rising reputation, Jamie Chadwick is poised to make waves in IndyCar. Whether she steps into a full-time role in the series next season or continues her climb through the ranks, her path is one to watch closely.
