Jannik Sinner addressed the criticisms he has faced in recent weeks during a press conference following his loss to Andrey Rublev in Montreal. The Italian tennis player was defeated by the Russian in a three-set battle, where Sinner struggled to perform at his best due to physical issues.
Sinner’s fatigue was evident as he found himself on his knees multiple times during the match, trying to regain his energy after long rallies. This exhaustion can be attributed to the tonsillitis he had, which not only prevented him from participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but also forced him to take a break from training.
In front of the media, Sinner, who is currently ranked number 1 in the ATP ranking, defended himself against the recent criticisms. He highlighted his successful season, with only five defeats since the beginning of the year. Sinner acknowledged that he shouldn’t focus too much on statistics, but he emphasized the consistency he has shown by reaching at least the quarterfinals in all the tournaments he has participated in.
Thanks to his triumph at the Australian Open, Sinner has already accumulated 6410 points in this year’s Race ranking, a record-breaking achievement for an Italian player. This accomplishment has secured his spot in the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Sinner’s main focus now is to prepare for the upcoming US Open and perform well in the season finale on indoor hard courts.
