New York Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh Reacts on Sideline During NFL Game
The New York Jets, who haven’t made the playoffs in over 13 years, may have a chance to accelerate their process. According to Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, the Jets could “reshape the league in 2024” with several trade ideas. One of those ideas involves the Jets making a bold move for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.
Gagnon explains that acquiring Adams could pave the way for the Jets, who already have a strong defense, to contend for the Super Bowl in 2024 with a healthy Aaron Rodgers. Adams is currently under contract with the Raiders for three more seasons on his $140 million deal.
Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets are looking to make a significant addition at receiver through trade, free agency, or the draft this offseason. Adams is listed as a player on Rodgers’ 2024 watch list. While pulling off this blockbuster deal would require significant compensation, the Jets are prepared to pursue him again this offseason.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets had tried to trade for Adams before the 2023 NFL trade deadline. Schefter explains that acquiring Adams was a move the Jets had been considering for a while.
Adams, 31, is a win-now player with a strong connection to Rodgers. He is one of the most accomplished wide receivers in the NFL. Adams has been named a Pro Bowler in six straight seasons from 2017 to 2022 and has earned three first-team All-Pro honors from 2020 to 2022. He has recorded at least 100 receptions in five of his last six seasons and has averaged 11.5 touchdown receptions over the past six years.
Adams’ skillset and existing relationship with Rodgers could greatly benefit the Jets and help receiver Garrett Wilson reach new heights. It remains uncertain how the new Raiders regime change will affect the possibility of Adams being traded this offseason. However, Adams has continued to make flirtatious comments about his former quarterback, expressing a desire to catch passes from Aaron Rodgers.
In an appearance on “Two G’s in a Pod,” Adams was asked which quarterback he would choose to catch passes from regardless of circumstance. Without hesitation, Adams answered, “Aaron Rodgers.”
In a stunning revelation during the 2023 season, Adams confessed to Rich Eisen that there is a deep longing between him and Rodgers. The #Raiders wide receiver, Davante Adams, spoke with Eisen and left fans with a glimmer of hope. Adams expressed that their friendship has grown stronger and they both clearly miss each other. The possibility of an offseason trade in 2024 seems more plausible than ever. Could we see a reunion between Adams and Rodgers on the #Jets? Only time will tell.
On January 9, Garrett Wilson, a supporter of the #Jets, endorsed the idea of Adams and himself becoming the most dominant wide receiver duo in the NFL next season. Wilson’s enthusiasm for this potential partnership was evident when he liked a tweet/post on X. It’s safe to say that Wilson is fully on board with the idea and is excited about the possibilities. Let’s manifest this dream into reality, #TakeFlight!
During this offseason, Wilson made a significant change by switching his jersey number from No. 17 to No. 5. The former Ohio State player wanted to reclaim his college number, and this decision left No. 17 available. No. 17 holds significance as it has been made famous by Adams during his time in the NFL and at Fresno State. This change adds another layer of intrigue to the possibility of Adams donning the #Jets jersey in 2024.
