Kevin Harvick believes that Martin Truex Jr. needs to speed up his decision regarding his future in NASCAR. Truex Jr. has been hinting at retirement since the beginning of the 2022 season. Despite extending his contract twice, his current contract is set to expire at the end of this season. As we are already halfway through the season, Truex Jr. has not yet announced his decision.
Kevin Harvick, the 2014 NASCAR Cup champion who retired last season, recently discussed the situation and emphasized the importance of Truex Jr. making a final decision. Harvick pointed out that Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) will soon get involved, as they cannot afford to have this level of uncertainty every year with a veteran driver.
If Truex Jr. chooses to retire, JGR will need to find a replacement driver who can deliver similar results to what Truex Jr. has achieved since joining the team. This replacement could be a young driver or someone with substantial experience at the top of NASCAR.
Harvick also noted that Joe Gibbs is pressuring Truex Jr. to reveal his decision quickly, as they do not want a repeat of past delays. The JGR team needs to plan for the future after Truex Jr.’s possible retirement.
It will be intriguing to see how long Truex Jr., an experienced Toyota driver, will take to make his final decision. It would be beneficial for all parties involved if the decision is made promptly, avoiding delays like those in previous years.
