The question on every Lakers fan’s mind: Is Anthony Davis okay? The matchup at Crypto.com Arena turned tense as the Lakers star took a brutal hit to the eye while trying to block Raptors center Jakob Poeltl at the rim. Known for his all-too-familiar injury-prone history, Davis had been moving cautiously through the season without major issues. But this eye injury, particularly concerning given his past eye troubles, has now put fans on edge.
In the post-game press conference, NBA analyst JJ Redick stepped up with some insight on Davis’ condition, though he could only confirm the basics. “He got poked in it. He was having trouble seeing… Taking a little trauma to the eye, it takes some time to get your clear vision back. But, other than that, no update,” Redick shared.
Adding to the worries is the fact that it was Davis’s left eye—the same one injured in March in a collision with the Warriors that led to a corneal abrasion. Though he managed a quick return then, this hit appears to be more severe.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, sources within the team noted that Davis experienced significant swelling and even had difficulty opening his eye after the collision. The Lakers have scheduled an ophthalmologist visit for him as a precautionary step, with an update expected following the examination on Monday.
Fans now hold their breath, hoping this injury won’t keep Davis off the court for long.
