McLaren has had a more favorable start to the current Formula 1 season compared to previous years. The team is steadily progressing and accumulating points over the weekends to secure a spot among the top three in the constructors’ championship. In the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren finished in third and fourth places respectively, behind Ferrari and Red Bull.
During the race in Melbourne, Ferrari secured a 1-2 victory and is only four points behind the lead in the constructors’ championship. McLaren seems to have resolved the issues they faced during the Saudi Arabian GP, showing exceptional speed in Australia. With a positive outlook for the upcoming Japanese GP, the McLaren team boss believes they can close the gap to Ferrari.
The Suzuka circuit, in particular, could be advantageous for McLaren. By utilizing this to their advantage and maximizing their speed, McLaren has a real chance to outperform Ferrari. McLaren’s goal for this year was to reduce the gap to the dominant teams, and it seems they are making progress.
In the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren secured their first podium of the year and their first overall victory. Comparing the team’s performance to the race in Jeddah, there was a significant improvement. The team is making a huge effort to deliver an exceptional performance. Norris expressed optimism for the future, stating after the Australian GP that the team’s pace was likely better than Ferrari’s. He acknowledges that Ferrari has a faster car, but with the current pace, Norris sees this as a positive sign.
