LANE KIFFIN CLEARED OF $40 MILLION LAWSUIT
Lane Kiffin, the Ole Miss football coach, has emerged victorious after being sued by DeSanto Rollins. The $40 million lawsuit, which accused Kiffin of racial discrimination, discrimination based on disability, sexual discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and gross negligence, has been dismissed, according to the Clarion Ledger.
The lawsuit stemmed from Rollins’ removal from the playing lineup after allegedly refusing to communicate with coaches due to mental health issues. The decision to switch Rollins from defense to offense is believed to have contributed to the problem.
The case took a dramatic turn when Rollins secretly recorded a meeting with Kiffin, during which the coach reprimanded him for disregarding instructions. Kiffin acknowledged the importance of mental health but made it clear that it should not be used as an excuse to ignore authority.
While many in the media criticized Lane Kiffin, I took a more nuanced and accurate position on the matter: Kiffin did nothing wrong and owed no apology. The dismissal of Rollins’ frivolous lawsuit confirms this.
Although Rollins is still listed on the Ole Miss roster, it remains uncertain whether he will continue with the program. It is highly unlikely that a player who sues his head coach will choose to stay. It seems that Rollins’ time with the team is rapidly coming to an end. Share your thoughts with me at David.Hookstead@
