Lewis Hamilton conquered a sixth place in the Sprint race in Austria. The team, which had faced difficulties at the beginning of 2024, showed signs of improvement with two consecutive podiums. However, their hopes of securing the pole position were frustrated after a confusing session.
During the qualifying session of the Sprint GP in Austria, many drivers had a favorable performance. However, Lewis Hamilton did not have a successful outing amidst the chaos.
Mercedes was the first team to send both their cars to the track, with Hamilton leading his teammate. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find his rhythm and only managed a mediocre lap.
In his analysis of the session, Hamilton admitted that he was not in contention for the top positions. He described the session as confusing, with cars fighting for position on the track. Despite feeling that the car was good, Hamilton acknowledged that he lacked speed to compete for the pole position.
While one of the Mercedes cars was less than a tenth behind the top three, Hamilton faced numerous challenges. Team boss Toto Wolff attributed his low speed to a rally-like turn one, which proved to be a difficult obstacle for the former world champion.
Despite the disappointing start to the weekend, it is expected that Hamilton will recover. An intriguing battle may unfold at the front of the pack, as Hamilton seeks to secure another podium in the Sprint, following his previous success in China a few weeks ago.
