Lewis Hamilton retired from the Australian Grand Prix on lap 17 of the race!
The Mercedes Formula 1 team had a forgettable performance at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. After a promising start, things quickly went downhill for the Brackley-based team. Hamilton was forced to retire due to an engine issue on lap 17 of the race!
His teammate, whose name we have omitted, seemed poised to secure a respectable number of points until he crashed his car on the final lap of the Australian GP. On lap 58, the British driver lost control of his W15 and crashed into the barriers after exiting turn six.
However, despite the challenges faced by Mercedes in Australia, Lewis Hamilton remains optimistic about the future.
Mercedes’ performance at Albert Park had a significant impact on their position in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. The team currently sits in fourth place with only 26 points. Additionally, Aston Martin is right behind with 25 points!
While Lewis Hamilton has expressed confidence in Mercedes’ prospects for the future, the main issue plaguing the team is the unpredictable nature of their W15 car. The challenges of 2024 have presented numerous obstacles for the Mercedes think tank.
Despite these challenges, Hamilton believes that his team can compete with the leaders in the medium term.
The seven-time world champion is in his final year with the Mercedes Formula 1 team. He will be joining Ferrari next year and, with that in mind, he aims to end his tenure with Mercedes on a high note. Hamilton ideally hopes to secure at least one victory in the Grand Prix this year to properly conclude his successful stint with Mercedes.
