Mercedes is currently in fourth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. Lewis Hamilton has been facing a very difficult time behind the wheel of the Mercedes W15. The car has not performed as expected and no one at the Brackley-based team is happy with the 2024 package!
F1 is currently on a short break before the Chinese GP and Lewis Hamilton made an appearance in New York. He was seen at a public event where he took the opportunity to discuss the issues with the W15.
He was asked about his experience in the 2024 season and had the following response.
Q: Do you drive in New York?
LH: No, I have never driven in New York. Actually, I don’t drive much.
Q: Do you only drive on the track? So how’s it going?[…]
LH: It’s going very badly at the moment 😆, but it’s a long, long season, so there’s plenty of time to improve. #GQ pic.twitter.com/nQaAEDTMHV
The 39-year-old driver, after four races in the 2024 F1 season, has only managed to score 10 points in the Drivers’ Championship. He has struggled to adapt to the W15 and has therefore been overshadowed by his teammate.
While Lewis Hamilton remains optimistic for the upcoming 2024 season, he believes his performance in the Japanese GP was greatly affected by his contact with another car during the race. Hamilton had understeer issues after sustaining damage.
As a result, he could only finish in ninth place.
With 20 races still remaining in the ongoing campaign, Mercedes has the opportunity to make a strong comeback. However, considering the persistent issues with the W15, it seems to be a very difficult task for Hamilton and his team. Mercedes is currently in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, behind the Woking-based McLaren F1 team.
