Rep. Barry Loudermilk is not holding back, accusing Liz Cheney of stepping way out of line in her communications with a Jan. 6 witness. According to Loudermilk, Cheney’s behind-the-scenes talks with Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness, went down without her lawyer’s consent—something Loudermilk calls “unethical, if not illegal.”
As chair of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, Loudermilk has been digging deep into the Democrat-led Jan. 6 Committee, and this latest revelation has only added fuel to the fire. He claims Cheney’s actions could lead to a Justice Department referral, as his team uncovers more questionable conduct.
Encrypted Signal messages show Cheney bypassed Hutchinson’s defense counsel, even though she seemed fully aware of the legal risks. Why would Cheney take the chance? Loudermilk suggests it’s because Hutchinson’s testimony was crucial to driving home the narrative the committee wanted, even if that meant bending the rules.
“This is just one more piece of evidence that the Jan. 6 Committee was more interested in pushing a story than getting the facts,” Loudermilk said, adding that Cheney’s influence led to Hutchinson changing her testimony—testimony that has since been disputed by other witnesses, including the infamous claim that Trump tried to grab the wheel of the presidential vehicle on Jan. 6.
Loudermilk’s investigation has already uncovered major gaps, like missing documents and video depositions, that the Jan. 6 Committee failed to preserve. Now, with this latest bombshell, Loudermilk is doubling down, vowing to get to the bottom of what he sees as unethical behavior and “numerous violations of protocol, ethics, and possibly even law.”
