Red Bull Advisor Helmut Marko has denied allegations that Formula 1 commercial rights holder Liberty Media played a role in the team’s decision to keep Sergio Perez for the remainder of the season. Perez’s recent decline in performance, with only 28 points scored in the last eight races, has caused Red Bull’s lead in the Constructors’ standings to narrow to just 42 points over McLaren.
Despite doubts about Perez’s future at Red Bull, the team chose to retain him after a meeting held on July 29. This decision came as a surprise to many, as there were indications that Daniel Ricciardo would replace Perez. However, Marko has dismissed rumors that Liberty Media influenced the decision, stating that the choice of driver is based on performance rather than external factors.
Marko highlighted Perez’s success on certain tracks and emphasized the need for consistency rather than increased speed. Ultimately, Red Bull believes that Perez is still their best option.
