Lewis Hamilton, a British driver from Mercedes AMG, is seen on the grid during the Formula 1 World Championship in Saudi Arabia. In an attempt to recover from a challenging period, Mercedes is said to have hired two senior engineers from Ferrari. According to reports, Simone Resta, who previously served as Chief Designer at Ferrari, will join Mercedes as Director of Strategic Development, working alongside Technical Director James Allison. Resta had been at Ferrari since 2001 and also had a stint as Technical Director at Alfa Romeo. Enrico Sampo, Leader of the Ferrari Driver Simulator Team, will also join Mercedes as Head of Performance Software. However, both Resta and Sampo will have to wait until 2025 to start their new roles due to their paid leave obligations. This move between Ferrari and Mercedes comes at a time when Ferrari is actively recruiting talent from other teams on the grid. In preparation for the regulatory changes in 2026, Mercedes has secured long-term contracts with Team Principal Toto Wolff and Technical Director James Allison. Additionally, David Nelson has been appointed the new Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, replacing Loic Serra as Performance Director.
