The historic Italian track is undergoing a renovation to meet modern Formula 1 requirements. This project will cost €21 million and is expected to be completed in 140 days, in time for this year’s Italian Grand Prix.
The final result of the renovation will be a more contemporary, efficient, safe, comfortable, and sustainable system. The process will use materials obtained from recycled and renewable sources, minimizing the use of new resources and reducing the impact on the park’s natural environment. It will also contribute to reducing air and noise pollution.
The track will undergo several changes, including the implementation of a newly designed flexible pavement. The curbs along the corners will be demolished and rebuilt, and the water collection and drainage system will be renewed to better handle extreme weather conditions that are becoming more frequent.
Other modifications include the redevelopment of the Vedano entrance avenue, the demolition and reconstruction of three underground passages, and the construction of a new underground passage connecting Porta Vedano to the Parabolica. Additionally, new pedestrian paths made of concrete will be created.
The official Monza track website explained that the purpose of the underground passages is to ensure maximum safety for the public, separating pedestrian and vehicular traffic. They will also provide functional and safe access for heavy vehicles.
The renewal announcement was made on Monza’s official website through a press release. The statement mentioned that on August 30, 2024, during the 95th edition of the “Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d’Italia”, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which is the oldest, most prestigious, and fastest circuit in the world of Formula 1, will be unveiled after 140 days of work and a total investment of 21 million euros. The track will have a completely renovated appearance and functionality, making “The Temple of Speed” more contemporary, efficient, safe, comfortable, and sustainable.
