Nissan was “caught” testing the prototype of the new generation of the Leaf, which is expected to hit the market in 2025.
Production of the predecessor ended in March of this year, and although Nissan has not yet confirmed the launch date for the new generation, international media have already reported that the third generation is expected to enter production next spring.
The first two generations of the Leaf featured a compact hatchback design, but the prototype recently spotted by “Motor Authority” suggests a compact crossover with a coupe-like roofline, inspired by the Chill-Out concept.
Everything indicates that the new generation of the Leaf will be based on the CMF-EV platform from the Alliance, Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi, which is used by the Nissan Ariya and some Renault models.
Furthermore, although the Leaf has so far been offered with front-wheel drive, it seems that the third generation will, for the first time, feature a configuration with two electric motors and all-wheel drive.
