Peugeot’s Lion brand has taken a new angular approach with its latest model, the e-5008. The electric vehicle (EV) version of the 5008 features an upright nose with a closed-off grille (open on the internal combustion engine models), slim LED headlamps, and a barely visible intricate daytime running light (DRL) signature below them, hidden by thick camouflage.
Moving down, the e-5008 has a taller and narrower air intake, along with traditional door handles and softer lines along its profile. The A-pillars appear to be less raked, and the back end of the roofline arches slightly towards the tailgate. The rear license plate has been relocated to a recess in the new bumper.
The e-5008 is transitioning from the PSA EMP2 platform to the STLA Medium platform, which will result in a more spacious cockpit and improved cargo area. This change also allows for a variety of powertrain options. The prototype seen in the photos features electric power, similar to the e-3008, Peugeot’s smaller sibling that shares the same construction and will also be used for the upcoming Jeep Compass.
Future customers of the e-5008 can expect two battery options: a 73 kWh unit and a 98 kWh unit, offering up to 316 horsepower. The e-3008, which uses the same powertrains, has a range of up to 435 miles (700 km) on a full charge, so it’s reasonable to expect the e-5008 to have a similar or slightly lower range.
Peugeot will also offer the 5008 with internal combustion power, likely including partially electrified units. This makes it a versatile option in the mid-size crossover class, competing against its cousin from Jeep, the next Compass.
The exact premiere date for the upcoming e-5008 (and 5008) has not been announced yet, but it is expected to debut sometime this year, possibly in the second half. Deliveries may begin towards the end of 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new vehicle from Peugeot.
