Red Bull has been dominating this year’s Formula 1 season, largely thanks to Max Verstappen. However, sometimes some of their rivals seem to be able to get closer – even if not consistently. Nigel Mansell hopes that Red Bull’s margin will diminish next year, creating a more fierce four-way battle at the front.
According to the former driver, the Austrian team’s rivals are managing to recover and already show clear signs of it: ‘I think what they didn’t like was giving too much advantage and having to catch up to Red Bull. Max was on a mission, but I think they have recovered. Look, take McLaren as an example and actually take Mercedes as an example too. In certain races, they close the gap a lot. It’s simply that, and you just have to look at Singapore, what went wrong for Red Bull there? It’s so complicated to set up the car correctly’.
For next year, Mansell hopes for a close competition between Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull – as he stated to aceoods.com: ‘What I’m saying very quickly is that Red Bull had too big of a leap, but everyone else has gotten a bit closer. And I just hope that with the different things that will happen in 2024, the four big teams will be very close’.
