MCLAREN SEEKS SUCCESS DESPITE SETBACKS
Youthful driver Lando Norris believes McLaren has the potential to capitalize on opportunities, much like Ferrari did in Australia. Although a risky strategy cost him a higher position in Suzuka, Norris acknowledged that it reflected McLaren’s current position in the hierarchy. He expressed optimism about their chances of winning races if they can make necessary improvements to the car. Norris also highlighted McLaren’s weaknesses in low-speed situations, which could hinder their performance in Shanghai. However, with a significant upgrade package planned for the Miami Grand Prix and more developments in progress, Norris hopes McLaren can compete with the leading teams.
Norris acknowledged that Suzuka unfolded largely as expected for McLaren. While there were some missed opportunities, he felt they were not far from achieving a better result. Throughout the season, McLaren has consistently found themselves behind Red Bull and Ferrari, but ahead of the other teams during races. This pattern continued in Suzuka, leading Norris to believe there weren’t too many frustrations. However, he recognized that McLaren needs to address certain areas of weakness, which have been a challenge for them over the years.
Looking ahead, Norris emphasized the importance of improving the car to be competitive with Red Bull and Ferrari. McLaren plans to introduce a substantial upgrade package at the Miami Grand Prix, with more developments planned for later in the season. Norris acknowledged the difficulties they have faced in certain areas but remained confident that McLaren can achieve success if they work hard to overcome these challenges. He believes that, with the right improvements, McLaren can have strong performances and potentially win races this year.
