Oscar Piastri, one of Formula 1’s most sought-after young talents, has decisively quelled recent speculation linking him to Red Bull. The Australian driver addressed the rumors during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, firmly stating he’s happy with McLaren and committed to his current team until at least 2026.
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko stirred the speculation when he hinted that Piastri’s management had shown interest in exploring a future with the Austrian team. The suggestion quickly gained traction in the paddock, igniting conversations about the driver market. However, Piastri responded by dismissing any talks about a Red Bull switch.
“Definitely not,” Piastri remarked when asked about the possibility of a move. “I’m very happy where I am. I am under contract for the next two years after this, and I’m certainly not looking to go elsewhere. It wouldn’t be a week in F1 without some comments from Helmut.”
The 23-year-old’s commitment to McLaren is clear, as the team currently leads the Constructors’ Championship and remains in contention for the Drivers’ title. Piastri has emerged as one of the brightest stars of the 2024 season, securing his maiden victory at the Hungarian GP and consistently challenging his highly experienced teammate, Lando Norris.
Piastri is intent on closing the season on a high, sharing, “We’ve got five races left this season, and I am determined to finish strongly and round off the year with more success.” He’s currently fourth in the drivers’ standings, trailing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 28 points, while also standing ready to support Norris’s title push, albeit on his terms and only if it aligns with his own race circumstances.
As Piastri heads into the final stretch of the season, the upcoming five races promise a fascinating finish, with Piastri focused on bolstering McLaren’s title bids—and leaving no room for Red Bull rumors.
