In a landmark move, Penske Entertainment has acquired the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, bringing one of North America’s most historic street races directly under its wing. The purchase, announced Thursday, places the Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar and IMSA street race into Roger Penske’s ever-expanding portfolio, with the timing perfect for the event’s 50th running this spring.
Roger Penske expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re incredibly proud to be the new stewards of this cherished and iconic event. This is the most historic and prestigious street circuit race in North America, and we’re excited to work with Jim Michaelian and his great team in Long Beach to ensure continued success and growth over the long term.”
Under Penske’s leadership, a substantial investment is expected, ensuring a thrilling celebration for fans and a boost to the Long Beach area. The move aligns with Penske’s ongoing vision for IndyCar, allowing for a more cohesive promotion of marquee events throughout the season. With Long Beach joining the list of directly promoted races, the series aims to deliver unified messaging and elevate the experience for fans and participants alike.
Penske’s expansion in motorsports goes back to his 2019 acquisition of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar itself, taking him from legendary team owner to an even broader role in American motorsports. Penske Entertainment’s influence is further set to grow with the upcoming Grand Prix of Arlington, a new race debuting in 2026 around the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers stadiums.
Penske Entertainment President & CEO Mark Miles emphasized the significance of the Long Beach acquisition: “This is a major race weekend, not just on our calendar but across the motorsport landscape. We’re committed to preserving the core attributes that make it best in class while also working on exciting and bold initiatives to make its future even bigger and brighter.”
As the Long Beach Grand Prix prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, Penske’s investment promises to deliver a revitalized experience while honoring the race’s storied legacy, setting the stage for an unforgettable milestone event this April.
