EXCLUSIVE: Percy Jackson Star Talks ‘Crazy’ Comparison to Harry Potter
In a recent interview, Aryan Simhadri, who stars as Grover in Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, discussed the comparison between the show and the Harry Potter films. While initially hesitant to agree with the comparison, Simhadri ultimately conceded that there are similarities. Just like the Harry Potter movies, the actors in Percy Jackson will grow with their characters, and Simhadri believes that the fans will grow with the show as well.
“It’s just like a crazy thing to compare this to Harry Potter,” Simhadri said. “But what we’re doing is kind of [similar] — a lot of people might grow up with this show, just like people grew up with Harry Potter.”
Simhadri also expressed his admiration for how the Harry Potter movies allowed the story to evolve with the audience. He is excited to see how this approach translates to Percy Jackson.
Of course, the Harry Potter cast had a head start in terms of age. The actors in the first film were younger, with Daniel Radcliffe being just 12 years old. In comparison, the actors in the Percy Jackson series are slightly older, with Walker Scobell, who plays Percy Jackson, being 15, Leah Sava Jeffries, who plays Annabeth, being 14, and Simhadri being the oldest at 17.
With four more books in Rick Riordan’s original series yet to be adapted, fans are hopeful that the production of the remaining seasons will begin soon. The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which adapted the first book, The Lightning Thief, has just concluded on Disney+.
You can now stream Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.
