For automobile fans, the creations of the Amalgam Collection are a mandatory reference, using real-scale scanning techniques to achieve perfection. The exclusive GMA T.50 was no exception, recreated in a 1:8 scale in a limited edition of only 199 exact replicas.
Working from CAD data provided directly by Gordon Murray Automotive, the team of craftsmen at Amalgam developed a prototype, meticulously reducing the data to ensure that the details were fully captured. “The goal is to produce a model that looks exactly like the real car. There should be nothing that dispels the illusion that you are looking at the full-size original. If you take a high-resolution photograph, put it in front of someone, and that person cannot tell if they are looking at a miniature or the real model, then we have done our job”, explained Sandy Copeman, founder of Amalgam.
In the development of the prototype, the craftsmen team from Bristol worked over 3500 hours, until the moment of submitting the model for approval by the designers and engineers of Gordon Murray Automotive, then giving rise to the commercial kit, which consists of 1093 individual pieces. Each replica will take about 350 hours to assemble, with a lot of time dedicated to the finishing touches.
The result is a perfect exhibition piece, measuring 54 cm in length, which replicates the T.50 in its launch specification, with Magnesium Silver and satin carbon exterior color scheme, glossy dark grey alloy wheels, and golden brake calipers. The model features openable doors, allowing for a detailed examination of the perfectly reproduced central driving position. Every detail of the leather and Alcantara Matrix Orange and Chromite Black interior has also been replicated, down to the orange Lozenge Spine embroidery and central analog tachometer. The model’s rear engine covers can also be opened, revealing the beautiful details of the naturally aspirated Cosworth GMA V12 engine, with 3.9 liters and 670 hp.
