Hi, how are you?
I’m doing great, thanks!
Oscar Piastri, the Australian driver from McLaren, has rejected claims that the team’s recent improvements in low-speed have negatively impacted his ability to excel in high-speed corners. McLaren has historically struggled in slower sections of the track, but in the last season, they made significant improvements to their car, resulting in regular podium finishes. Piastri and his teammate Lando Norris were able to take advantage of the strength of the McLaren MCL60 in high-speed corners, achieving double podium finishes in Japan and Qatar. However, McLaren made upgrades in Miami that improved their performance in low-speed situations, surpassing expectations and even leading to a victory for Norris. Despite these changes, Piastri is confident that the McLaren MCL38 will continue to be competitive when Formula 1 returns to more traditional circuits, such as Barcelona. Piastri believes that while other teams may have made progress in high-speed corners, McLaren is still strong in this area and will be able to fight for top positions. McLaren has consistently performed well in recent races, accumulating more points (116) than any other team. Piastri acknowledges the significant points difference compared to Red Bull (89 points), but still considers McLaren a genuine championship contender. He recognizes that it will be a tough challenge, but believes that McLaren’s consistency and strong performances at different circuits make them a force to be reckoned with. Piastri acknowledges that there are still areas that need improvement, but emphasizes that even small details can make a big difference when competing for championships. He acknowledges that Red Bull currently has a significant advantage, but believes that McLaren is also in the running, capable of challenging Ferrari as well. Piastri recognizes that the second half of the season will be crucial in determining their championship aspirations.
