PREMA Racing announced its intention to join the NTT IndyCar Series in 2025, with a plan to have two cars in the premier American single-seater championship. The team will compete throughout the season, including the prestigious Indianapolis 500, and will use Chevrolet engines, having secured lease contracts from the two previous engine manufacturers. To prepare for its debut, PREMA will establish a base in Indiana and dedicate this year to establishing a presence in the United States.
Rene Rosin, Team Principal of PREMA Racing, expressed his excitement about the team’s entry into the NTT IndyCar Series, stating: “Today’s announcement is a significant milestone for PREMA Racing. Competing in the renowned IndyCar series and participating in the iconic Indianapolis 500 is a dream come true for our team and everyone involved in our organization. We have immense respect for IndyCar, its rich history, and the unique challenges it presents. While we anticipate difficulties, we are determined to give our best, learn quickly, and establish ourselves as top competitors from the start. Our desire to achieve victory drives us, and the demanding nature of this endeavor will only motivate us further. This new chapter will also provide valuable learning opportunities and knowledge transfer for PREMA Racing and its personnel. We extend our gratitude to IndyCar for their warm welcome and to Chevrolet for their support. We look forward to starting operations at our new facility in Indiana and hitting the track as soon as possible.”
PREMA Racing has enjoyed great success in junior formula categories in Europe, winning two Formula 2 titles and finishing as runner-up twice in the last seven years. The team has also excelled in Formula 3, clinching an impressive four championships in the last five years. PREMA’s presence spans across all levels of the F1 ladder, from karting to F2, and even the exclusive F1 Academy series for women. Notable drivers such as Charles Leclerc, Mick Schumacher, and Oscar Piastri have used PREMA Racing as a stepping stone to Formula 1. With its reputation already established worldwide, motorsport enthusiasts in the United States will soon have the opportunity to witness the team’s skill firsthand.
IndyCar President Jay Frye welcomed PREMA Racing’s entry into the series, recognizing its global influence and remarkable achievements in single-seater racing. “PREMA Racing, with its extensive reach and notable presence in the sport, will be a valuable addition to our competitive paddock,” Frye stated. “We look forward to seeing Rene and the PREMA team on the grid of the NTT IndyCar Series in 2025.”
Currently, the NTT IndyCar Series consists of 27 full-time entries, and some tracks on the calendar are already operating at maximum capacity in terms of pit lane. It remains to be seen how IndyCar will address this issue if the grid expands beyond its current size. No information has been released regarding drivers or sponsors for PREMA’s expansion into the United States, with more details expected to be announced later this year.
